Chairperson and Board Directors - Positions Available

The Rotorua Lakes Council is seeking a chairperson and qualified individuals to serve on the board of directors of Rotorua Regional Airport Limited (RRA).    RRA is a Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) responsible for maintaining a safe and efficient Airport operation whilst optimising the use of its assets to facilitate, and grow tourism and trade, other commercial activity, and airport profitability.     RRA is responsible for the ongoing capital development and maintenance of the Airport assets and ownership of the core infrastructure. 

The Airport is viewed as an essential infrastructure asset for Rotorua and has a key role to play in the economic performance, growth and development of the region.  The airport is home to a number of Rotorua businesses and provides both financial and non-tangible benefits to Rotorua.  RRA is committed to supporting the Rotorua Lakes Council to achieve its stated priorities for 2023-25.

The Rotorua Lakes Council is seeking applicants who are passionate about aviation and who possess strong leadership skills.    As a member of the RRA Board of Directors, you will have the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of our airport, helping to ensure that it remains a world-class facility that delivers exceptional service to all of our passengers.   

Board nominees should have a strong track record of leadership and an understanding of the aviation sector.  Ideal candidates will possess the following skills/qualifications:

  • Legal compliance               

  • Local government knowledge/ public-private sector interface

  • Aviation regulatory compliance incl. health & safety

  • Route development

  • Financial and commercial acumen

  • Aviation customer experience (incl. passengers)

  • Asset management

  • Property development

  • Active regional, national & international networks with a focus on aviation

As a board member, you will be responsible for assisting RRA to meet its objectives and any other requirements outlined in the Statement of Intent the organisation agrees each year with its’ shareholder, Rotorua Lakes Council.     You will work collaboratively with other board members and Rotorua Regional Airport’s executive team to provide strategic guidance and make important decisions that impact our organisation and the community we serve.    You will be expected to attend 7-8 Board meetings annually.
